University of Connecticut
As a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Marine Sciences, I worked with Dr. James O'Donnell to develop an FVCOM model of Long Island Sound circulation and to combine model results with field observations. With the model output, I've focused on determining the path of freshwater from the Connecticut River through the Eastern Sound, and the mechanisms that drive the seasonal variation in this transport.
Other research at UConn included mapping the bottom stresses in the Eastern Sound for sediment transport applications, and in the Western Sound for habitat mapping applications. My future interests in Long Island Sound include determining the relative influences of the Connecticut and Hudson River outflows on stratification in the Western Sound, and of vertical and lateral heat fluxes on the summertime warming of bottom waters in the Western Sound.
